Cross Country

The Junior team came in 3rd overall (out of 26 schools) and our Year 5 girls team came in came first! We are incredibly proud of everyone’s individual efforts, including Florence (3rd in the Y5 girls race), Halle (5th in the Y6 girls race), Leo (4th in the Y5 boys race), Jared (7th in the Y6 boys race) and Aamir (9th in the Y6 boys race).  The Infant team also had some great individual placings, including Harmony finishing in 4th place for the Year 2 girls.

Y5/6 Tag Rugby

The team played beautifully, winning all 8 morning matches and finishing top of the group. In the afternoon, we won our semi-final to qualify for the final. Although we narrowly lost in the final against reigning champions, Fairways, it was a very close match. As runners up in the tournament, we are now through to the Essex finals in February.

Y5/6 Girls Football

The girls won their group with two wins and a draw, scoring 8 and without conceding a goal. The team then qualified for the ‘Super 8’ part of the tournament in which they won every match by scoring 15 goals and again not conceding a goal. Following a tough semi-final, the girls qualified for the final where they played Greenways. This was a hard-fought match and required extra-time, but we came through as winners in a close 2-1 victory. This is an outstanding effort by the team, who as champions, qualify for the finals next week at Billericay Town Football Club where the best 12 girls' teams in Essex will compete against each other to see who is the best Y5/6 Football team in the county.

Year 5 & 6 Boys Football

Our Y5/6 boys football team successfully took part in and won the annual Southend schools' tournament. This year’s competition was extremely strong and widely considered the toughest for many years. Yet despite this, our boys team qualified from their group stage and the following stage comfortably. We faced an excellent Chalkwell team in the semi-finals but were victorious, 3-0. The final against Fairways was extremely competitive but our team won the final 2-0. The boys have now qualified for the Essex finals.

Year 5 & 6 Girls Football Final

Once again, our Y5/6 girls team performed admirably at the Essex County finals. The team won their opening group matches and finished top of their group and qualified for the semi-finals. After an incredibly close match, which ended 2-2 at full time, we narrowly lost the penalty shoot-out. This is a fantastic achievement by the team, and we are very proud of every member of the team.

Year 3 & 4 Dodgeball

The team played really well all day, winning soem great games. The team work and rwesilience displayed by all was a credit to us.

Year 5 & 6 Dodgeball

Congratulations to our Y5 and Y6 Dodgeball teams who both competed against 20 teams across the borough. Both teams did really well, winning three of their four games.

Year 5 & 6 Boys Football Final

Our Y5/6 boys football team competed in the Essex Finals where only the strongest teams in Essex were competing. Despite a loss in our second group game, the boys successfully qualified from their group and then went on to win their quarter final and semi-final games. The boys played incredibly well in the final and were complimented on their accurate passing, determination and teamwork. Whilst they narrowly lost the final 1-0, it is a fantastic achievement which we are incredibly proud of.

KS1 Dodgeball

Some super shots from all of our team members and some unlucky loses. The team had a great time and can't wait to play more dodgeball in the future!

SUFC National League U11s Girls Football

The team played  in the SUFC Football Tournament against other local schools. After remaining undefeated in the group stage, they cruised through their semi-final match and were victorious in the final. They have now qualified for the regional finals, which is truly outstanding achievement.

SUFC National League U11s Boys Football

A very tough tournament with some strong physical teams, coming from local schools and some from the edge of London. We started strong winning 3 - 0. Next match was Lee Chapel, who were the only team to beat us during the group stages of the Essex finals. They beat us again. The boys picked themselves up and won the next two matches, meaning we qualified for the quarter finals by coming runners up in our group.

The quarter final was an end to end battle, but thanks to some incredible saves, we won 1 - 0.

Semi final time, against Lee Chapel! A fantastic match to watch. We scored going 1 - 0 up! During extra time, Lee Chapel scored and try as we might we couldn't get one back. So close!

KS2 Boccia

Some super shots from all of our team members and some unlucky loses. They had some great fun playing friendlies, supporting and encouraging each other as well as other teams.

KS2 New Age Kurling

A very excited team that put their all into every game. They qualified for the super 10 tournament by placing second in their group during the round robin.

SUFC National League U11s Girls Football

Year 5/6 Rugby Finals

The Y5&6 Rugby team qualified for the Essex finals which took place at Southend Rugby Club.  The team did fantastically, winning all their morning matches, qualifying top of their group for the super 10 round.  Playing well in the next round, they were equal points and equal try difference with another school, so it eventually came down to try's scored and they narrowly missed out on the semi final by 2 trys. The team played some incredible rugby and were a pleasure to coach.

KS1 Football

What a fabulous time the KS1 football team had at the football tournament!  They played so well, working as a team and playing with such enthusiasm.  We are so proud of them all! They are now through to the finals in March.

KS2 Girls Netball

A huge well done to our star netball team, who played today at Alleyn Court. They demonstrated determination and good sportsmanship throughout. Well done, girls!

SUFC National League U11s Girls Football (London and South East Finals)

Well done to the Y5/6 Girls Football Team who represented Bournes Green and Southend United at the North London & Essex Regional Finals at Borehamwood FC. After a hard-fought out league, the girls finished top, winning three games and drawing one. We are pleased to share that they were then victorious, 2-0 in the final and are now through to the South of England Finals in Slough. The squad of eight girls collectively played to a very high standard and represented themselves with dignity and showed respect to the opposition teams at all times which was fantastic to see.

Year 3 Boys Football

Very well done to the Year 3 boy’s football team who played in a competition and won most of their matches confidently. They are a super team of boys, all working hard and playing some great team football.

KS1 Football

What a fabulous day for the KS1 football we had! The girls took part in the finals and came in second place. They had so much fun and participated with such enthusiasm. The boys, having reached the finals, competed really well to achieve sixth place. What a great day for all!

Cross Country Finals

A huge congratulations to our cross country finalists who competed, did very well and gave their absolute best. Leo even finished in eighth place!

SUFC National League U11s Girls Football (South of England Finals)

A huge congratulations to our Y5/6 Girls Football Team who competed in the Southern England NL tournament on Tuesday against 7 other high performing girls football teams. The girls remained undefeated in their group games and qualified for the semi-final, which they won 2-1 after coming back from being 1-0 down early in the game. Sadly, they narrowly lost the final, 2-1 but played incredibly well and were unlucky not to find the equalizer late on following a period of consistent pressure. Whilst the girls were disappointed, they left in the knowledge that they had qualified for the final from over 1000 schools, played incredibly well and conducted themselves with pride and dignity. Every girl from the 8-girl squad played their part in a fantastic team achievement and we are very proud of them! As a well done and thank you, we are in discussions with ex-professional footballer and Republic of Ireland international, Simon Cox, to lead a special training session for the squad.

Guidelines as to how we select children for school events

Our dedicated sports coaching team run trials for entry to competitive sports competitions. These are during the school day and shared with the chidlren ahead of the sessions.

  • Trials are run at lunchtimes or in PE lessons to maximise the opportunity for children to participate.
  • Training sessions are then planned to prepare our teams and individuals before events.
  • We may also consider factors such as behaviour and attitudes or attendance when selecting teams. This may also include a child's commitment to training sessions.
  • For participation events, and to increase the number of children who represent our schools, we may consider children who have shown a particular talent or skill within PE lessons.
  • We also enter some events for children with Special Educational Needs and disabilities.
  • Mr Kent oversees the selection of squads in consultation with school staff and members of our sports team. We select teams fairly and take into account a range of factors, most of which have been listed above. The school makes the final decision on squad/team selection.
